Ruben Villa, a 39-year-old man from Oxnard, California, tragically lost his life on February 16, 2025, in what authorities have classified as a homicide. Villa was found in downtown Oxnard at the intersection of H and Second streets around 4:30 a.m., suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The location of the shooting is near the future Campus Park, just a few blocks west of the city's main public library.
Villa, who was born and raised in Oxnard, was a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, cousin, and partner. He was known for his vibrant personality, his love for sports—especially boxing—and his dedication to his family. He was a hardworking man who prioritized providing for his four daughters: Mya, Estrella, Izabella, and Kamilah. His partner, Roxanna, along with his parents, Anthony and Sandra Villa, and his siblings, Monica, Rebecca, and Rene, are among those mourning his loss. Villa was also preceded in death by his brother, Anthony “Cinco” Villa.
Authorities have not yet released information regarding any arrests or suspects in connection with the shooting. The Oxnard Police Department has urged anyone with information to come forward, offering a $25,000 reward for details leading to an arrest and conviction. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to uncover the circumstances surrounding Villa’s death.
