Maurice Stone Davis, a 56-year-old male, was a well-known and beloved figure in his Atlanta, Georgia community. The owner of JMMR Tires on Jonesboro Road, he was known by friends and associates for his generous spirit and a passion for muscle cars and drag racing, even earning the race name “Stone Cold.” Friends described him as a man with a heart of gold who was always smiling and willing to help anyone.
His contributions to the community were significant, and he was a respected figure, which was evident by the outpouring of support following his death.
On the afternoon of February 27, 2025, a tragic event unfolded at his tire shop. Davis was shot and killed by a disgruntled employee, who was later identified as 46-year-old Roger T. Hunter. It is reported that Davis had been trying to help Hunter by giving him part-time work at the shop. The motive for the shooting has not been publicly released.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Maurice's son, who was also present at the scene, returned fire on Hunter. Hunter was wounded and died on the way to the hospital. Davis’s son was taken in for questioning by the police. After an investigation into the incident, authorities determined that his actions were in self-defense, and he was subsequently released without any charges being filed against him. The death of Maurice Davis was a significant loss to the Atlanta community, and many gathered at his tire shop to create a memorial and pay their respects.
