On the afternoon of March 20, 2025, a dispute over loud music on the west side of Indianapolis escalated into a fatal encounter, claiming the life of 48-year-old Kyle Sallee. The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. in the 9100 block of Wellston Drive, near North Raceway and Rockville roads. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a report of a person shot and, upon arrival, found a man with gunshot wounds.
The man, later identified as Kyle Sallee, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to court records, an argument had erupted over the volume of music being played. A witness reported seeing a gun pointed at Sallee and attempted to de-escalate the tense situation. During the confrontation, Sallee had reportedly begun to record the interaction on his phone. Another witness saw a man point a gun at Sallee and then witnessed the shooting.
A person of interest was immediately detained at the scene. Following the shooting, a witness stated that the detained individual began to apply pressure to Sallee's chest and attempted to call 911. The next morning, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced that the suspect had been arrested on a preliminary charge of murder. When questioned by police, the suspect claimed he did not know or realize what had happened until he saw the gun. He also reportedly did not remember the events until he watched a portion of the video that Sallee had recorded on his phone. In a peculiar statement, the suspect also claimed that 'another person within him was the one who pulled the trigger.' The name of the suspect has not been publicly released pending the filing of formal charges.
