On a Sunday evening in Indianapolis, a burst of violence cut short the life of 17-year-old Tywon Jones. The male teenager was fatally shot on March 30, 2025, in an incident on the city's northeast side that also left another juvenile in critical condition. The events unfolded around 7:10 p.m. in the 10000 block of East 42nd Street, near North Mitthoefer Road.
First responders were called to the scene after reports of two separate but connected discoveries.
One of the young victims was found at a gas station at the intersection of East 42nd Street and North Mitthoefer Road. Shortly after, another juvenile was located in the 10000 block of Ellis Drive, where he had knocked on a door seeking help after being shot. Both teenagers were transported to Riley Hospital for Children in what was described as 'very critical condition.' Despite medical efforts, Tywon Jones succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The other victim was reported to be in critical but stable condition and was undergoing surgery.
In the days that followed, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department investigated the deadly shooting. Their efforts led to the arrest of a suspect on the evening of Thursday, April 10. IMPD detectives, with the assistance of the SWAT team and U.S. Marshals, located and apprehended a 17-year-old male in the 5200 block of Montavia Lane. Police have not released further details about a possible motive for the shooting.
