On a Wednesday afternoon in Stockbridge, Georgia, events unfolded that would end in the tragic death of 46-year-old Curtis Johnson. A male bail recovery agent, Johnson was at the Southwinds Point Apartments on April 16, 2025, reportedly to execute a warrant. The situation at the apartment complex escalated quickly, leading to a fatal shooting.
Around noon, Stockbridge Police received calls about suspicious individuals, believed to be bounty hunters, at the apartment complex. These calls were soon followed by multiple reports of gunfire. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Johnson deceased outside one of the apartments. A blood trail and shell casings led them inside the residence where they found a second man, 30-year-old Edward Atkins, also dead from gunshot wounds in a bedroom. Atkins was a resident of the apartment where the shooting occurred. Friends and colleagues of Johnson described him as a courageous, fearless, and cautious professional who always prioritized safety.
In the weeks following the double homicide, the Stockbridge Police Department identified a suspect in the case. An arrest warrant was issued for 23-year-old Romello Jabari Faison. He is facing charges of murder, burglary, and impersonating a police officer in connection with the deaths of both Curtis Johnson and Edward Atkins. Authorities have asked for the public's assistance in locating Faison. The investigation into the circumstances that led to the deadly shooting remains ongoing.
