In the early morning hours of Saturday, September 10, 2016, the life of 36-year-old Joshua Turner Norred was cut short in a violent encounter in Stockbridge, Georgia. Norred, a former owner and operator of Kut Throat Tattoo Parlor and an employee of Caterpillar, Inc., was at the Stay Inn and Suites on Davidson Parkway when the fatal incident unfolded.
At approximately 8:00 a.m., a man wearing a mask approached Norred and opened fire, striking him at least three times. The gunman then fled the scene in a vehicle, leaving Norred fatally wounded. The brazen shooting prompted an immediate investigation by the Clayton County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities quickly identified Cary Raymond Duke Jr. as the primary suspect in the murder. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was considered armed and dangerous. The search for Duke culminated on Thursday, September 15, 2016, when U.S. Marshals located him at a Hampton Inn in Conyers. He was taken into custody without incident and subsequently faced charges of murder and aggravated assault in connection with Norred's death.
