Aaron Swatts Jr., a man who lived in Miami Gardens, Florida, was fatally shot on April 18, 2025, in what authorities described as a domestic dispute that escalated into gunfire. The incident took place inside a townhome located near the 19000 block of Northwest 46th Avenue. According to police reports, officers responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at the residence just after 6:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they observed movement in an upstairs window and ordered the occupants to exit the home. One of Swatts’ teenage sons came outside and informed officers that his brother had been shot in the foot. Moments later, Shaneeka Daschell Harris, Swatts’ wife, exited the home with her 15-year-old son, who had suffered a gunshot wound to his right thigh. Harris then informed officers that her husband was still inside.
When officers entered the home to conduct a protective sweep, they discovered Aaron Swatts Jr. lying unresponsive at the entrance to an upstairs bedroom. He had sustained a gunshot wound to his back. Authorities recovered a black handgun from a piece of furniture in another bedroom, along with ammunition found on the staircase. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue airlifted Swatts to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:41 a.m. Investigators later took Harris and one of her sons to the Miami Gardens police station for interviews. The teenager who was shot was treated at the hospital before also being brought in for questioning. All three individuals provided statements, and according to police, Harris waived her Miranda rights and made a confession, though the details of her statement were redacted in the publicly released report.
During the 911 call, one of the boys identified Harris as the shooter of both his sibling and Swatts. In the background of the call, a woman’s voice—believed to be Harris—was heard saying, “This man made me shoot my f-----g son.” The teenager also informed the dispatcher that Harris still had the gun in her possession after the shooting. Authorities revealed that Harris and Swatts had been married since 2022 and had maintained an on-and-off relationship for over a decade. Although Swatts did not live at the home full-time, he frequently spent time there with Harris and her sons from a previous marriage. Officers recovered a 9 mm Walther CCP handgun at the scene, which had an 8-round capacity, along with three spent shell casings and five live rounds.
Following the investigation, Shaneeka Harris, 40, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder for the fatal shooting of her husband. Authorities continue to assess the circumstances leading up to the incident as they gather evidence and conduct witness interviews. The tragic event has left both Harris and the community shaken as investigators work to provide clarity on what transpired before the fatal shooting.
