On the evening of December 18, 2025, a domestic dispute at a residence in Miami Gardens, Florida, escalated into a fatal shooting. Police officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 3300 block of Northwest 177th Terrace shortly after 7:00 p.m., where they discovered the lifeless body of Yasmany Rodriguez Fernandez on the front porch. The Hispanic male victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene after emergency responders arrived. Inside the home, the victim’s wife, his stepdaughter, and an eight-month-old infant were found unharmed but shaken by the violence that had just unfolded on their doorstep.
The investigation revealed that the incident stemmed from ongoing tensions between the family and 32-year-old Sylvester Grice-Jordan, the boyfriend of Rodriguez Fernandez’s stepdaughter. Grice-Jordan had been living at the home since April but was asked to leave earlier that week due to repeated conflicts. He moved out on December 15 but left his dog behind. On the day of the shooting, family members contacted him to retrieve the animal after it defecated inside the house, sparking a heated argument. When Grice-Jordan returned to the property that evening to collect the dog, a verbal altercation broke out between him and Rodriguez Fernandez.
According to police reports and surveillance footage obtained from the neighborhood, the confrontation turned deadly after both men, who were initially armed but not holding their weapons, moved the dispute outside. Rodriguez Fernandez reportedly placed his handgun on a table before following Grice-Jordan to the porch. It was then that Grice-Jordan retrieved a rifle and opened fire, striking the victim. As Rodriguez Fernandez lay wounded on the ground, surveillance video captured Grice-Jordan standing over him, demanding his keys. The footage allegedly shows the suspect counting down from five before firing a final shot into the victim’s head.
Law enforcement officers arriving at the scene observed Grice-Jordan in the front yard holding the rifle. He complied with orders to drop the weapon and was immediately taken into custody. He was subsequently booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he was held without bond. Prosecutors charged him with second-degree murder and displaying a weapon while committing a felony. During his initial court appearance, a public defender entered a not guilty plea on his behalf, and he remains in custody awaiting trial.
