On the evening of Thursday, January 30, 2025, tragedy struck in the Navy Yard neighborhood of Southeast Washington, D.C. Nico Rector, a 36-year-old male resident of Southeast, D.C., was in the 900 block of M Street, Southeast, when gunfire erupted at approximately 8:36 p.m. First District officers from the Metropolitan Police Department swiftly responded to reports of the shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Rector suffering from gunshot wounds.
