In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Omaha, Nebraska, the life of 17-year-old DMarco Pope, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On June 16, 2013, at approximately 1:23 a.m., the sound of multiple gunshots pierced the night in the area of 2254 Saratoga Street, prompting a police response to a ShotSpotter activation. The call was quickly updated to a shooting at a gathering just down the street at 2220 Saratoga Street.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a chaotic scene with
two young victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims, later identified as 18-year-old Brendon Ford, was found outside the residence and pronounced dead at the scene. Inside, officers located DMarco Pope, who was in critical condition. He was rushed to Creighton University Medical Center, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later.
The double homicide rocked the community, leaving friends and family to mourn the sudden and violent loss of two young lives. In the immediate aftermath, Omaha police began their investigation, canvassing the neighborhood and appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the individuals responsible for the shooting.
