In the quiet neighborhood of Kimberton in Brookside, Delaware, the afternoon of March 16, 2025, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Jahliel Jackson, a 19-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally shot in a sudden act of violence that stunned the typically peaceful community. Residents reported hearing multiple gunshots in quick succession around 3 p.m. near Clarion Court and Durham Court.
In the immediate aftermath, Jackson was privately transported to Christiana Hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. New Castle County Police arrived at the scene to find a wide perimeter of cordoned-off streets as they began their investigation, searching for evidence and speaking with shaken neighbors who expressed their shock and disbelief at the violent event. Two residences in the area were found to have been struck by gunfire.
Less than a week after the tragic shooting, authorities made an arrest in connection with Jackson's death. A 13-year-old male from Wilmington was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder and weapons offenses. The young suspect was arraigned and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center after failing to post a $170,000 cash bail. While an arrest has been made, the investigation remains active, and police have urged anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the ongoing case.
