In the spring of 2025, the life of Keron Troutman, a 39-year-old Black / African American man from the New Haven, Connecticut area, was tragically cut short. On the evening of April 7th, at approximately 9:50 p.m., gunfire erupted at the intersection of Goffe and Winter streets in New Haven. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered two men lying in the street with gunshot wounds.
One of the victims, 49-year-old Clifford Capehart of New Haven, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Keron Troutman was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries the following day, April 8, 2025. Authorities have stated they believe Troutman and Capehart were friends.
Remembered by his family as a devoted father of three and a "giver" with a bright smile and a big heart, Troutman was known for his willingness to help friends and family. A graduate of Hamden High School where he played football, he was pursuing a career as an automotive technician at Porter and Chester at the time of his death. His brother recalled their last conversation took place just days before the shooting, during a birthday party for Keron's six-year-old son.
The New Haven Police Department is actively investigating the double homicide. While no definitive motive has been released, investigators have suggested the shooting may have stemmed from a drug-related dispute, as some drug evidence was reportedly found at the scene. Authorities do not believe either victim was armed and have indicated that they are searching for at least one shooter who remains at large. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Keron Troutman and Clifford Capehart, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation remains ongoing.
