On October 26, 2019, at approximately 2:09 a.m., New Haven police responded to a ShotSpotter activation indicating six gunshots in the area of 429 Shelton Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 35-year-old Curtis McCray Jr. of Hamden, Connecticut, lying unresponsive on the ground in front of 423–425 Shelton Avenue. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 2:40 a.m.
