On May 9, 2011, 22-year-old Mohamed Bilal "Billy" Altinawi was fatally shot during an armed robbery at the family-owned Post Road Deli, located at 983 Boston Post Road in West Haven, Connecticut. The incident occurred around 8:20 a.m. when a man entered the deli and, after Altinawi was unable to open the cash register promptly, shot him point-blank in the face with a shotgun. The assailant then fled the scene with approximately $2,500 in cash, along with cigarettes and stamps.
