On a Tuesday evening in Aurora, Colorado, the life of 23-year-old Yousef Jamal Elnaffar was tragically cut short. The male victim had arranged to meet two individuals on March 11, 2025, in the 10800 block of East Bethany Drive to sell a pair of high-end shoes through an online marketplace. This transaction, a hobby he had maintained since high school, took a fatal turn.
Shortly after completing his nightly Ramadan prayers at a nearby mosque, Elnaffar met with the potential buyers at
approximately 9:45 p.m. During the encounter, he was shot multiple times. When Aurora police officers arrived at the scene, they found Elnaffar with critical gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and passed away the following morning. The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office later confirmed his death as a homicide resulting from multiple gunshot wounds. Elnaffar was a recent graduate of the University of Colorado Denver and was pursuing a Master's degree at the University of Denver while working in IT.
The investigation into the senseless act of violence led to the swift apprehension of two 19-year-old suspects. Kevin Hernandez-Gonzalez of Franktown was arrested shortly after the shooting and is believed to have been the driver. He faces charges of second-degree murder and aggravated robbery. A few days later, Isaac Delacruz of Parker was taken into custody. Investigators have identified Delacruz as the alleged shooter, and he faces charges of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery. Authorities are also investigating whether the two suspects are connected to other robberies in the Denver metro area.
The death of Yousef Elnaffar deeply impacted the local community, particularly the Colorado Muslim community, as the incident occurred near a school where many of his friends were present. His family has expressed their profound grief and concern for the violent nature of his death. Both suspects are being held in custody as they await further legal proceedings.
