In the spring of 2006, a celebration of the Cambodian New Year at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Aurora, Colorado, turned into a scene of tragedy. On the evening of April 15th, Christopher Nguyen Le, a 22-year-old Asian male, was enjoying the festivities with his friend, Quoc Dinh Phan. The night was shattered by the sound of gunfire as occupants of a dark-colored truck pulled into the hotel parking lot and opened fire with two different guns.
Both Christopher and his friend were struck by the
gunfire and died from their injuries at the scene. The assailants fled in their vehicle immediately following the shooting, disappearing into the night. The motive for the attack was not immediately clear to investigators, leaving a community in shock and two families grieving their sudden and violent loss. The Aurora Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the double murder.
Despite the passage of time, the case of Christopher Nguyen Le's murder remains unsolved, a lingering cold case for the Aurora Police Department. No arrests have ever been made in connection with the shooting, and the suspects remain unidentified. Investigators have periodically renewed calls for information from the public, hoping that someone will come forward with the key piece of evidence that could bring closure to the families of the two young men whose lives were cut short on that spring evening.
