In a quiet neighborhood in west Tuscaloosa, a Sunday afternoon was shattered by violence that claimed the life of 62-year-old Joseph Earl Miller. On March 9, 2025, police responded to a shooting at Miller's home in the 3200 block of 18th Street. Inside, they found Miller deceased, having sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The investigation into the city's fifth homicide of the year quickly pointed to a suspect close to the family.
