A quiet Saturday morning in Hoover, Alabama, was shattered by a fatal family dispute on March 15, 2025. Rosalind Barclay, a 55-year-old female, was shot and killed, and her own brother was taken into custody in connection with her death. The incident unfolded outside a residence on Jasmine Way, leaving a neighborhood in shock and a family torn apart by violence.
Earlier that morning, Rosalind had gone to her brother's home, where an argument began.
The conflict moved outside the house and escalated near her vehicle. It was there that her 40-year-old brother, Jonathan Arthur Barclay, allegedly retrieved a firearm and shot his sister multiple times. Neighbors reported hearing as many as six gunshots, a startling intrusion into the suburban peace.
An off-duty state law enforcement officer who was nearby and heard the gunfire was able to detain Jonathan Barclay at the scene. When Hoover Police arrived at approximately 8:10 a.m., they took him into custody. Rosalind Barclay was found outside the residence with multiple gunshot wounds. She was rushed to UAB Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
Jonathan Arthur Barclay was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. He was held without bail in the Hoover City Jail with plans to transfer him to the Jefferson County Jail. The motive for the argument that led to the fatal shooting has not been publicly disclosed by authorities. This tragic event marked the first homicide of the year in the city of Hoover.
