On May 20, 1998, 17-month-old African American male James Sylve was found deceased in Kenner, Louisiana. His body was discovered inside a gym bag placed in a trash bin behind a church. The tragic discovery came two days after the murder of his mother, 20-year-old African American female Lashann Sylve Matthews, who was found bound, gagged, and showing signs of choking in their trailer home in Hammond, Louisiana.
