Harvey Dubs, a 30-year-old man, was among the victims of a series of gruesome murders that took place in Northern California between 1984 and 1985. He, along with his wife Deborah and their 16-month-old son Sean, disappeared from their San Francisco apartment in July 1984. Their disappearance was later linked to the crimes of serial killers Leonard Lake and Charles Ng, who were responsible for the abduction, torture, and murder of multiple individuals during this period.
Lake and Ng
operated from a remote cabin in Wilseyville, California, where they carried out their crimes. Their modus operandi involved kidnapping victims, subjecting them to horrific abuse, and ultimately killing them. The remains of several victims were discovered at the site, along with videotapes and journals documenting the atrocities committed. The case came to light when Lake was caught shoplifting in June 1985. Upon his arrest, he ingested cyanide pills and died by suicide. Ng, on the other hand, fled to Canada but was later arrested for shoplifting and extradited to the United States in 1991.
Ng was tried and convicted of 11 counts of first-degree murder, including the killing of Harvey Dubs and his family. The jury found true the multiple-murder special circumstance, leading to a death sentence in 1999. The trial was one of the most expensive in California history due to the lengthy legal proceedings and appeals. Ng remains on death row at California Medical Facility.
