Lillian "Annette" Anderson, an 11-year-old girl, mysteriously disappeared alongside her 6-year-old sister, Mylette Anderson, on August 1, 1974, from their home in Oceanway, a small community in Jacksonville, Florida. The two sisters were left alone in their residence while their mother, Elizabeth Anderson, and their older sister, Donna, went to care for a sick relative. Their father, Jack Anderson, was expected home around 6 p.m. but was delayed due to boat problems. He called home at 7 p.m.
and spoke to Annette, who reassured him that their dog was barking at birds in the front yard. However, when he called again at 7:20 p.m., no one answered.
Upon Jack's arrival, he found the family dog locked in a back bedroom, and the girls were nowhere to be found. Mylette's favorite doll, which she carried everywhere, was also missing. Neighbors reported seeing a white car in the driveway around the time the girls vanished, but no one witnessed them leaving. Their disappearance coincided with a series of cases in which five young girls went missing within three months in 1974. Two of the girls, Virginia Helm and Rebecca Greene, both 12 years old, were later found deceased, yet no arrests were made in connection with their deaths.
Despite extensive investigations, no substantial leads emerged regarding Annette and Mylette's fate. The only name ever linked to their disappearance was serial killer Paul John Knowles, known as "The Casanova Killer." Knowles was responsible for a killing spree across seven states in 1974, claiming at least 18 victims, though he alleged that he had murdered 35 people. However, no concrete evidence tied him to the Anderson sisters' case. Their parents, Elizabeth and Jack Anderson, passed away without ever learning what happened to their daughters.
To this day, the case remains unsolved, leaving behind a haunting mystery that has endured for decades. The absence of arrests, suspects, or definitive evidence has kept the investigation cold, with no closure for the surviving family members.
