In the summer of 1993, the body of 27-year-old Ray Bostick, an African American male, was found discarded in a rural area of Chesapeake, Virginia. An unemployed truck driver, Bostick was last seen alive three days prior in downtown Norfolk. On June 28, a passerby discovered his nude body lying on the side of Cook's Mill Road. Although there were no immediate visible signs of injury, an autopsy would later reveal the chilling truth: Ray Bostick had been strangled to death.
The state of his body suggested he had been killed several days before being left on the roadside.
The discovery of Bostick's body sent a ripple of fear through the community and local law enforcement, as his murder was not an isolated incident.
