Vernon Lester Larkin, a 30-year-old man, was found dead in his apartment on September 7, 1988. His mother, unable to reach him for several days, requested a welfare check from his apartment manager. Upon entry, the maintenance worker discovered Larkin lying on the living room floor between the couch and the coffee table.
