On June 22, 2000, the body of Beverly Burns, a 34-year-old African American woman, was discovered in an abandoned building on Chicago's South Side. Her remains were severely decomposed, making it impossible to determine the exact cause or time of death. Beverly Burns was among seven women found dead in similar circumstances during the summer of 2000, all of whom were African American and known to engage in high-risk activities such as prostitution and drug use.
