On a grim day in October 2003, the body of Johnnie Mae Williams, a 45-year-old African American woman, was discovered in a wooded area in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A divorced mother of three, Williams had struggled with drug addiction and was involved in prostitution at the time of her death.
