In the waning hours of a November night in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 19-year-old April Netter was fatally shot while sitting in a vehicle on North 47th Street. The incident, which occurred on November 30, 2016, also left a young man with a hand injury. According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the shooting was a drive-by, and investigators believe Netter was not the intended target of the gunfire.
The vehicle from which the shots were fired was later discovered approximately six
blocks away, having been intentionally set on fire. In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement had not identified any suspects or determined a motive for the shooting, urging anyone with information to come forward. The tragic event marked a devastating recurrence of loss for April's father, Roger Chenevert, who had lost another daughter, Kayla Selders, to gun violence just four years earlier.
Despite the initial investigation and the passage of time, there have been no publicly announced arrests or naming of suspects in connection with the murder of April Netter. Her case is considered a cold case. Her family continues to seek justice for her untimely death.
