In the early morning hours of January 2, 2024, the life of 37-year-old Cynthia Lamb was tragically cut short on a street in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A devoted mother of six, she was walking home with a male friend around 2:45 a.m. when a vehicle approached them. The driver, identified as her ex-boyfriend Darren 'D' Knox, 23, reportedly confronted the pair.
Family members later recounted that Lamb had recently ended her relationship with Knox due to his escalating physical abuse.
She had become fearful of him after he allegedly beat her so severely on one occasion that she had to use heavy makeup to hide the bruises. Relatives also stated that Knox had threatened to kill the Baton Rouge mother after she broke things off with him.
That morning on Main Street, Knox allegedly struck Lamb in the face before shooting her multiple times. She died in the front yard of a house, just a few blocks from her own home. The friend who was with her at the time fled the scene.
Following the deadly shooting, the Baton Rouge Police Department launched an investigation which quickly led them to Darren Knox. He was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In the days that followed, friends and family of Lamb, who was affectionately known as 'CG,' gathered at the corner of Main and North 25th streets to hold a balloon release in her honor and to raise awareness about domestic violence. They released silver, black, and purple balloons as a tribute to her memory and a call for an end to such senseless tragedies.
