Bundy was identified as one of Gacy's victims decades after his death. His remains were discovered among the 33 bodies buried in the crawl space of Gacy's home in Norwood Park Township, near O'Hare Airport in Chicago. At the time of the discovery in 1978, Bundy's family suspected he might be among the victims, but they were unable to confirm this due to the lack of dental records, which were the primary method of identification at the time. Bundy's dentist had retired and destroyed his files, leaving the family in a state of uncertainty for years.
In 2011, advancements in DNA technology finally provided closure to Bundy's family. Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart initiated a DNA identification program to match the unidentified victims of Gacy with their families. Bundy's siblings, Laura and Robert, provided DNA samples, which were matched to Bundy's remains by the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification. This breakthrough confirmed Bundy as victim number 19 of Gacy's gruesome killing spree.
Gacy was convicted of murdering 33 young men and boys and was executed in 1994. His modus operandi involved luring victims with promises of work or social engagements, then subjecting them to torture and murder. Bundy's case highlights the devastating impact of Gacy's crimes and the long-lasting pain endured by the families of his victims.
