In the autumn of 2002, a visit to his friend's family home in Gary, Indiana, turned tragic for Larry Peaches, a 27-year-old male. On the evening of October 12, Peaches was at the residence of Delores Buchanan with her son, Herman Buchanan, and another friend, Simeon Bradley. The gathering took a fatal turn with the arrival of Herman's cousin, Ronnie Drane.
Drane, who was reportedly wanted on federal drug charges at the time, engaged in a brief conversation with the group before excusing
himself. Moments later, he emerged with a handgun and opened fire. The sudden eruption of violence left Larry Peaches fatally wounded by multiple gunshots. Herman Buchanan was also shot in the jaw but managed to escape the house with Bradley.
Following the initial shots, more gunfire was heard from inside the home. When law enforcement arrived, they discovered Delores Buchanan deceased in a bedroom closet, also a victim of multiple gunshot wounds. Larry Peaches was found slumped over inside the front door.
The perpetrator, Ronnie Drane, fled Indiana after the killings. In an attempt to eliminate a witness, he later orchestrated an attack on his cousin, Herman Buchanan, in Kentucky in March 2003. This initial attempt failed, but Drane successfully ambushed and killed Herman later that same month.
Ronnie Drane was eventually apprehended by federal marshals in Tennessee in March 2004. He faced multiple charges, including two counts of murder for the deaths of Larry Peaches and Delores Buchanan, and attempted murder. In August 2007, a jury found Drane guilty on all counts except for an aggravated battery charge. For the murders of Peaches and Buchanan, he received a 180-year prison sentence.
