On August 27, 2005, Derrick Jackson, a 17-year-old African American male, was fatally shot at the McAlpine Recreation Center located at 1115 Avenue F in the Ensley neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama. At the time of his death, Derrick was a student at Jackson-Olin High School.
