On July 4, 1979, 17-year-old Christopher Phillips, an African American male, fell victim to a brutal crime perpetrated by the notorious Briley brothers—Linwood, James, and Anthony—in Richmond, Virginia. The incident began when the brothers noticed Phillips near their parked vehicle and suspected him of attempting to steal it.
