In December of 2020, in Richmond, Virginia, Curtis Rashawn Wyche, a 36-year-old male, was found deceased in a discovery that brought a tragic end to a missing persons case. Wyche, along with his 49-year-old wife Sandra Lavern 'Sand' Powell Wyche, had been reported missing, prompting concern for their welfare. Sandra, a beloved nurse at Westminster Canterbury Richmond, had failed to show up for work, which raised alarms.
Her husband, Curtis, was last seen at their residence on Chamberlayne Avenue.
The search for the couple concluded tragically on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, when police discovered their bodies inside their home. They were found in an upstairs closet and had died from apparent gunshot wounds. The investigation into their disappearance quickly turned into a homicide investigation.
Within hours of finding the bodies, authorities made an arrest in connection with the double homicide. The suspect was identified as Sandra Powell-Wyche's son, Trevon Powell. He was subsequently charged with homicide and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Following his arrest, Trevon Powell was held without bond at the Richmond city jail. The motive for the killings has not been publicly revealed.
