In the early hours of Sunday, May 11, 2025, the life of 18-year-old Sherrod Rondoe Bosher was cut short by gunfire in Richmond, Virginia. A senior at John Marshall High School, the young Black man was just weeks away from his graduation. The incident unfolded around 2:15 a.m. on South 2nd Street, near the James River, where Richmond Police were called to investigate reports of gunfire.
Upon their arrival, they discovered a vehicle that had been struck by bullets, but Sherrod was not at the scene.
Shortly after the initial call, authorities received information that Sherrod had been taken to a local hospital with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries. The Richmond Police Department's Major Crimes detectives are actively investigating the case. At this time, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting continues.
Sherrod was a well-regarded student-athlete who played football for the John Marshall Justices. His former baseball coach remembered him as a compassionate individual, recalling a time when Sherrod bought a new pair of Air Jordans for a child with autism who was being teased. With aspirations of becoming a welder, he had plans to either join an apprentice program at the Norfolk Shipyard or enlist in the Navy. His mother, Sherelle Robinson, has publicly expressed her grief and called for justice for her son. The community, particularly his high school, has been deeply affected by his death, with Richmond Public Schools making a crisis team available to support students and staff.
