On September 25, 1989, a tragic incident occurred involving 23-year-old African American woman, Lashawn Cowart, and her two-year-old son, Travis. While driving together, Michael Bernard Bell, who was accompanying them, stopped the vehicle, exited, and opened fire on both mother and child, resulting in their deaths. After the shooting, an accomplice arrived in another vehicle to pick up Bell from the scene.
