On a summer day in Terry, Mississippi, a welfare check led to a grim discovery at a home on Midway Road. Inside, authorities found the bodies of 60-year-old David Hylander, a Caucasian male, and his 83-year-old mother, Sarah Hylander, on July 25, 2021. Both had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The Hinds County Sheriff's Office immediately launched an investigation into the double homicide.
Investigators quickly identified a person of interest: David's nephew and Sarah's grandson, Harry
Hylander. Authorities believed there had been an altercation between Harry and David a day or two before the shootings. Following the incident, Harry Hylander was believed to have taken one of the victims' vehicles, a 2013 white Chevrolet Impala.
The search for the suspect concluded when Harry Hylander was located and arrested at a hotel in Clinton, Mississippi. At the time of his arrest, he was in possession of a large amount of cash that was thought to have belonged to his grandmother. The investigation also uncovered that Harry had confessed to the murders to another family member.
Harry Hylander was charged with capital murder for the death of his grandmother and first-degree murder for the death of his uncle, David Hylander. In November 2024, he pleaded guilty to both murders. The court sentenced him to two life sentences without the possibility of parole, bringing a legal conclusion to the tragic case that took the lives of David and Sarah Hylander.
