Brandon Holcomb, a 36-year-old man from Jacksonville, Florida, was fatally shot on September 26, 2024, during the passage of Hurricane Helene through the city. The incident occurred in the vicinity of Eaverson Street near the New Town neighborhood. Jacksonville police officers, who were in the area of West Beaver Street, heard gunshots around 8 p.m. and found Holcomb with multiple gunshot wounds when they arrived at the scene. Despite immediate attention, Holcomb died at the scene.
Holcomb was described by his family and those who knew him as a respectable and hard-working individual. He had been renting a room in the area for a couple of months and was known for his routine of taking an Uber to and from his job at the port. His mother, Ericka Kohn, emphasized that he was a creature of habit and kept to himself in the neighborhood, but was highly regarded by those who knew him.
The loss has been devastating for Holcomb's family, particularly his mother, Ericka Kohn. Kohn has been struggling to cope with the loss, stating that she has not slept or eaten since the incident. She expressed her deep bond with her son, recalling how he often said he looked just like her and the joy he brought to the family. Holcomb is survived by his daughter, Brielle, as well as several siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The investigation into Holcomb's death is ongoing, with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office working diligently on the case. The family, along with the crime-fighting organization MAD DADS, has been canvassing the neighborhood to gather information and encourage anyone with knowledge about the shooting to come forward. A $10,000 reward has been set up for information leading to an arrest. Kohn has made a public plea for the person responsible to turn themselves in, emphasizing that while the perpetrator could be visited behind bars, she would never see her son again.
