On May 20, 1987, 87-year-old Laverne Hale, an African American woman, was brutally attacked in her Indianapolis home. The assailant forcibly entered her residence and subjected her to a severe beating, inflicting critical injuries. Despite medical intervention, Hale succumbed to her injuries nine days later, on May 29, 1987.
