Paul James Martin, a 17-year-old male of Caucasian ethnicity from Texarkana, Texas, was tragically murdered on April 14, 1946. He and his friend, Betty Jo Booker, were shot to death by the infamous serial killer known as the Texarkana Phantom Killer. The attack occurred at the entrance to Spring Lake Park, marking one of the earliest and most shocking incidents in a series of violent crimes that terrorized the Texarkana area during that period.
