On February 3, 1980, a tragic mass shooting occurred in El Paso, Texas, resulting in the deaths of five individuals. Among the victims was Frederick Bergford, a 28-year-old soldier stationed at Fort Bliss. The other victims included Kathleen Lynn Austin, 32; Marianne Laweka, 53; Jana L. Carpenter, 29; and Randy Wayne Steele, 20, all residents of El Paso.
