Sergeant James Delbert Mitchell Jr., aged 43, was a dedicated officer with the Amarillo Police Department in Texas. On November 11, 1985, while returning home from work, he witnessed a one-car accident on Interstate 27. Still in uniform, Mitchell stopped to render aid.
