Jalen JaJa Stogner, a 17-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on August 31, 2012, in Chicago, IL. Jalen was shot and killed in front of his mother and two younger brothers outside a laundromat in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. The incident occurred while Jalen was helping his mother unload laundry from their car. As he walked out of the laundromat, a brief exchange with another young man, Alan Padilla, led to the fatal shooting.
Padilla, also 17 years old, pulled out a gun and shot Jalen in the side of his back. Despite being rushed to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Jalen was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
