On that fateful night, Rudy was walking with his wife, brother, and a friend after spending time at the El Pacifico Bar located at South Presa and Pereida. As they were making their way home, a red Chevy Monte Carlo with a green passenger door drove by. The occupants of the vehicle exchanged words with Rudy and his group.
The car initially left the scene but returned shortly after. The passenger in the vehicle then fired a shotgun at the group, fatally wounding Rudy. He died in the parking lot of Handy Andy on the 900 block of South Presa. Another individual in the group was injured but survived.
