Angelo Polendo, a 37-year-old Hispanic male, was found motionless and bleeding from his head on October 11, 2016, at the intersection of North Sabinas and Lombrano streets in San Antonio, Texas. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Polendo with severe head trauma. He was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:29 a.m. The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed his death.
Polendo's mother, Alyssa Polendo, described him as a loving son and charismatic friend. She recalled through tears that she had to leave him with her mother when she was called to serve in Desert Storm.
Witnesses reported that Polendo was one of several people inside a vehicle that had pulled up at the intersection for a drug deal. A man approached from behind the vehicle, and several gunshots were fired. Someone in another vehicle got out to check on Polendo but then got back in the vehicle and drove off. Days later, a witness told investigators that Fabian X. Pena, 19, had confessed to shooting Polendo and then running over him with a vehicle. Pena was reportedly anxious as he recounted the events. Another witness stated that Donnye S. Green, 20, was with Pena when Polendo was shot. Both Pena and Green were arrested and charged with capital murder, with their bail set at $500,000.
However, the case took a turn when the charges against Pena and Green were dismissed in December 2016 due to insufficient evidence. Despite the arrests, the investigation into Polendo's death remained unresolved. Nearly four years later, in October 2020, San Antonio police continued to seek new tips that could lead to the arrest of Polendo's killer. Crime Stoppers offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information on those responsible for the fatal shooting. The case remains a cold case, with authorities still searching for the person who killed Angelo Polendo.
