On November 30, 1907, Special Officer Miguel Cantu, a 64-year-old Hispanic male, was on duty at a carousel on San Antonio's West Side when he was fatally shot in an unprovoked attack. The assailant, identified as Ira Brown, shot Officer Cantu and then took his own life. Officer Cantu succumbed to his injuries at the Santa Rosa Infirmary. The San Antonio City Council recognized his service and sacrifice in their records on December 5, 1907.
