Deputy Sheriff Eugene James Heimann, aged 36, tragically lost his life on March 21, 1988, while serving with the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office in Richmond, Texas. Heimann was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a burglary suspect. During the encounter, the suspect pulled a pistol from a potato chip bag and shot Deputy Heimann in the face. The suspect then stole Heimann's cruiser but was apprehended a short time later.
