On November 13, 2021, Taita Johnson, a 31-year-old African American woman from Danville, Illinois, was found dead in a Riverside apartment. The Riverside Police Department responded to a report of a possible burglary at an apartment located at 63 Forest Avenue around 1 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered two unresponsive individuals inside the apartment. The victims were identified as Taita Johnson and Jeremy Lane, a 38-year-old man from Riverside. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by Riverside Fire Department paramedics.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office conducted autopsies and determined that both Taita Johnson and Jeremy Lane died from multiple gunshot wounds. The deaths were ruled homicides.
