Raymond Scott Gregg, a 19-year-old male, tragically lost his life on November 15, 1989, in Garland, Texas. His death was part of a violent spree carried out by Daniel Joe Hittle, who was involved in a feud with his drug dealer, Mary Goss. On the night of the incident, Hittle, after an argument with his wife, left his home armed with a 20-gauge shotgun. He first shot and killed Garland police officer Gerald Walker during a traffic stop.
Hittle then drove to Goss's home, where he killed Mary Goss, 39, her boyfriend Richard Cook Jr., 36, and Raymond Scott Gregg.
The tragic events continued as Hittle also shot Goss's 4-year-old daughter, Christy Condon, who later died in the hospital. After committing these murders, Hittle engaged in a car chase and gunfight with police before being arrested. He was charged with multiple counts of murder but was only tried for the murder of Officer Walker. Hittle was eventually convicted and sentenced to death. He was executed by lethal injection on December 6, 2000.
The loss of Raymond Scott Gregg, along with the other victims, remains a somber reminder of the devastating impact of violence and the importance of community safety.
