On the evening of July 18, 2023, at approximately 7:20 p.m., 33-year-old Brisen Dewayne Dunn of Dallas was fatally shot while riding a gas-powered scooter in Garland, Texas. The incident occurred in the 3300 block of South Shiloh Road near West Kingsley Road. Dunn and another male were traveling northbound when, after stopping at a traffic light, they proceeded through the intersection and were fired upon by at least one individual from a passing vehicle.
The assailants fled the scene, heading north on Shiloh Road. Both victims sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to a local hospital, where Dunn was pronounced dead. The second victim was reported to be in stable condition.
In the days following the shooting, Garland police identified 21-year-old Jesus Roberto Trevino as a suspect in Dunn's murder. Trevino was wanted on charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. On July 26, 2023, Trevino surrendered to authorities at the Lew Sterrett Justice Center. He was booked with a bond set at $1 million for the murder charge and $750,000 for the aggravated assault charge.
Authorities also sought assistance from the public in identifying a second individual connected to the case. This person was observed leaving the area of 11438 LBJ Freeway in Dallas on the day of the offense. Despite releasing images captured from surveillance footage, the second suspect remained unidentified at that time. The Garland Police Department encouraged anyone with information to come forward, offering a reward through Garland Crime Stoppers for tips leading to an arrest.
The investigation into the motive behind the shooting and the involvement of additional suspects continued as detectives worked to piece together the events leading up to Dunn's death. The community was urged to provide any information that could assist in bringing all responsible parties to justice.
