On the morning of January 6, 2008, police officers in Kansas City, Missouri, were dispatched to a residence located at 2716 Grove regarding a reported disturbance. Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement discovered two victims suffering from gunshot wounds inside the home. One of the victims, identified as 35-year-old Eric L. Davis, was found alive but in critical condition, while the second victim, 45-year-old Rosalind D. Dawson, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Eric L. Davis was immediately transported to a local hospital where he received emergency treatment for serious injuries sustained during the shooting. Following his initial hospitalization, he was transferred to an extended care facility to continue his recovery. Despite medical intervention and prolonged care, Davis never fully recovered from the trauma inflicted during the attack. He remained in care for over a year until he succumbed to complications related to his injuries.
Eric L. Davis died on April 6, 2009, at the age of 36. following his death, the Jackson County Medical Examiner officially ruled the manner of death as a homicide on January 14, 2010, linking it directly to the gunshot wounds he received in 2008. The investigation into the double shooting has continued as a cold case for the Kansas City Police Department. Authorities have not reported any arrests or identified specific suspects in connection with the incident, and they have historically urged anyone with information about the case to contact the Cold Case Squad.
