On the night of April 18, 2010, violence erupted in the 5800 block of Olive Street in Kansas City, Missouri, claiming the life of a young man. Emuel J. Menifield, a 21-year-old male, was gathered with a group of people outside a residence early that Sunday morning. Around 12:33 a.m., while the group stood near a car parked on the street, an unknown vehicle approached the scene. As the car drove by, the occupants unleashed a barrage of gunfire into the crowd before speeding away into the darkness.
The drive-by shooting left five victims injured in its wake. Menifield was one of two men in their twenties who sustained life-threatening injuries during the ambush. First responders transported him to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds. Alongside him, a 13-year-old boy was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot injury, while a man and a woman, both in their twenties, suffered minor wounds and refused treatment at the scene.
